Early Thanksgiving

The holidays just aren't the same since both my father and mother passed away. My father passed away about 10 years ago and my mother about 4 years ago. Since that time, quite a few of my other family members (aunts, uncles, last grandparent) have passed on. So, needless to say, I don't have a lot of family left. I have two older brothers and they each have families of their own and we all live in different states. I know they like to spend the holidays with their children and grandchildren, so several years ago, I planned an early Thanksgiving celebration at my house. We get together about two weeks before Thanksgiving and have a huge meal and just fellowship together. This last weekend was our early Thanksgiving. My brothers arrived on Thursday and Friday. Then our whole family, including my three children and three grandchildren, all went out to Cracker Barrel for supper on Friday. Then Saturday we had turkey, dressing and all the fixings. We ate until we could hardly move, but, boy, was it good!! I lived in Washington State for about 20 years, so I didn't get to spend many holidays with my family, and now that my parents are gone, I really regret that. I know I can't do anything about that now, but I wanted to do something to take advantage of the years I have left with my brothers. So, about four years ago, we moved back down south to be closer to our family and I'm so glad we did. We had a wonderful time this past weekend! But, I did tell my daughter that I won't be fixing another turkey for Thanksgiving, so she asked me if I'd fix fried chicken. So, on November 23 when the rest of you are enjoying turkey, we'll be having good ole southern fried chicken. Sounds like a new tradition to me!!!

The miles are long and my sister and I are all thats left. My children are over a 100 miles away also and I don't like turkey so their families have their own traditions. I tell my children they should be happybecause I am content.
The phone and computer keep us in touch.
God bless!

Up until 4 years ago, I had lived in Washington State for about 20 years. We decided to move closer to our daughter, son-in-law and grandchild, so we pulled up stakes and moved to Tennessee. It was so worth it!!! We now have three beautiful grandchildren that we love spoiling. I really miss my parents and wish they were here to enjoy their great-grandchildren, but I just trust we'll all be together some day in Heaven!
